Another inmate found dead in his cell at Camp Hill Prison, officials say

Bryan Conrad, 50, was found unresponsive in his cell on Monday, prison officials said. On Tuesday, Bernard Grover was allegedly murdered by his cellmate.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Another inmate was found dead in his cell at Camp Hill State Correctional Institution this week, prison officials said Wednesday.

Inmate Bryan Conrad, 50, was found unresponsive in his cell by prison staff on Monday,  superintendent Michael Gourley said in a press release. Staff immediately began performing life-saving measures on Conrad until Lower Allen Township EMS personnel arrived, but they were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at 3 p.m.

Conrad is the second SCI-Camp Hill inmate found dead in his cell this week.

Tuesday morning, inmate Bernard Grover (Alias: Kevin Beattie), 57, from Philadelphia, was also found dead in his cell. Grover's death was ruled a homicide after investigators noted several injuries on his body.

His cellmate, Shaquille Tyrin Gibson, 30, from York, has been charged with first-degree murder following an investigation by State Police, prison officials said.

Conrad was serving a 4- to-8-year sentence for a conviction out of Cumberland County for Failure to Comply with Registration of Sexual Offenders Requirements. He had been at SCI Camp Hill since April 6, 2023.

In accordance with state policy, Pennsylvania State Police were notified and will conduct an investigation. The official cause of death will be determined by the Cumberland County Coroner’s Office.

Conrad's next-of-kin has been notified, according to prison officials.
