Lancaster ranked one of best small cities in U.S. to live in

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — Small city life has been a recent buzz for families who want an active, energetic lifestyle but want to avoid expansive, major cities.

A small city in Pa. was ranked in the top 10 best small cities in the U.S. to live in, according to a recent study.

WalletHub is, "an award-winning personal finance company that empowers customers to lead financially healthy lives," according to its website.

Headquartered in Miami, Fl., WalletHub conducted a study on the best small cities in the U.S. The study consisted of over 1,300 cities in the U.S. with populations between 25,000 and 100,000.

Many factors were analyzed from the study to determine the best small cities like housing costs, low unemployment rates, good health care, safe living conditions and more for residents to achieve a high quality of life. 

The study grouped cities by percentiles, with the 99th percentile representing the top 1% of small cities in the U.S.

The results showed that Lancaster, Pa. was ranked the No. 8 best small city in America. Lancaster fell in the 99th percentile, receiving a total score of 69.5.

"Moving from a bustling metropolis to a small city could drastically cut down your cost of living, " said Chip Lupo, WalletHub analyst. "While small cities may lack some advantages of big cities, like robust public transportation systems, they make up for these shortcomings in other areas."

Other Central Pa. small cities were ranked including York in the 53rd percentile, Harrisburg in the 66th percentile and Lebanon in the 44th percentile.
