LANCASTER, Pa. — The streets of downtown Lancaster were bustling with activity, as shoppers took part in Small Business Saturday. Hundreds of people stopped by more than 50 stores to help check off their Christmas shopping lists.
"I think there's some hidden talents and gems we don't always get to see," said Erin Settle.
Erin Settle said she's taken part in Small Business Saturday over the past few years. She said the day allows her to support local stores as well as shop for her friends and family.
“I have a friend who lives overseas, so I like to find little trinkets from Lancaster to send to her," said Settle. "She really likes it over here, so I try to send her items that make her think of Lancaster.”
Meanwhile, shoppers like Tyler Bronakoski are using the shopping day to learn more about the City of Lancaster and connect with his neighbors.
“It’s never boring," said Bronakoski, who recently moved to Lancaster. "There are always stories to tell from the shopkeepers, and I think you get a sense of community.”
Joel Henry, the general manager at Building Character, said Small Business Saturday is one of the biggest days of the year for many businesses in Lancaster. He added that money made during the event goes a long way in keeping local stores open.
“They’re your neighbors, they’re your friends," said Henry. "These are people who, when you support these stores, it impacts the community.”
With every purchase, Henry said people are helping support their neighbors and the local economy during the holidays.
“It all stays local, and that’s the beauty of Small Business Saturday," said Henry.
