Lancaster County man dies when vehicle becomes trapped in flood waters

EPHRATA, Pa. — Update, Dec. 20 (1 p.m.): An autopsy determined Allen Nolt died of accidental drowning. Coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni ruled his manner of death was accidental.

A Lancaster County man died Monday morning when his vehicle became submerged in high waters due to flooding in the Conestoga River, coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni announced.

Allen "Ray" Nolt, 73, of Clay Township, was traveling along Cabin Drive in West Earl Township when his vehicle became trapped in the high waters, Diamantoni said.

Nolt was transported to the Emergency Room at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:43 a.m., Diamantoni said.

Nolt's body was transported to the Lancaster County Forensic Center for further examination, according to Dimantoni.

A ruling on his cause and manner of death will be determined after an autopsy is performed, Diamantoni said.
