Juvenile inmate at Lancaster detention facility charged with stabbing staff member

LANCASTER, Pa. — A resident at a Lancaster County detention center is facing additional charges after allegedly stabbing a staff member twice with a stick, West Hempfield Township Police claim in a criminal complaint.

Anthony Padua, 18, of Philadelphia, is a juvenile resident at Manos House, a detention facility located on the 1200 block of Prospect Road in West Hempfield Township. He is accused of stabbing the staff member twice with a 12-inch stick with six 1-inch exposed nails.

The incident occurred on the night of July 3 in the Manos House supervisor's office, according to police.

The staff member sustained puncture wounds to his stomach and behind his right ear, police said. He refused medical treatment from EMS.

Padua is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, according to police. He was remanded to Lancaster County Prison following his arraignment after failing to post bail of $50,000.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 15, according to court records.
