State Police: West Chester man was driving under the influence when he crashed into horse and buggy

The buggy's eight occupants were all injured in the Sunday afternoon crash in Paradise Township, Lancaster County, according to State Police.

PARADISE, Pa. — A Chester County man has been charged with DUI and related offenses after a crash involving a horse and buggy in Lancaster County on Sunday.

James Walkergoutal, 27, of West Chester, was driving his Toyota Prius on Lincoln Highway East at 4:16 p.m. when the vehicle crashed into the back end of a horse and buggy carrying eight people, including a 5-year-old child, according to State Police.

All eight occupants of the buggy sustained injuries of varying severity, police said. They were transported to Lancaster General Hospital by EMS for treatment.

Troopers determined Walkergoutal was driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and took him into custody. He is charged with DUI, reckless driving and multiple summary traffic offenses.
