LITITZ, Pa. — A Lancaster County man has been charged with attempted homicide and related offenses after police say he stabbed a relative hours after being released on bond for assaulting a different victim.

The victim arrived at Lancaster General Hospital via private vehicle at about 9 p.m. on Dec. 3, claiming he had been stabbed by Russell Adams-Nicholls, 44, in his home on the 600 block of Chatham Way in Lititz.

The victim had sustained a serious injury to his neck, resulting in severe blood loss that required life-saving surgery, according to the criminal complaint.

Officers responded to the victim's home on Chatham Way, where they discovered a large amount of blood in the kitchen and sunroom and other signs of an altercation.

While searching the home, police found paperwork in an upstairs room that indicated Adams-Nicholls had been released on bail following an arrest for assaulting a 72-year-old woman in his Willow Street home earlier that day.

A witness told police they bonded Adams-Nicholls out and drove him to the victim's home in Lititz. The witness reported Adams-Nichols was acting "manic."

Adams-Nicholls was last seen by the witness at about 6 p.m., police said. The victim arrived at Lancaster General Hospital at about 9 p.m., according to the complaint.

Police took Adams-Nicholls into custody on Dec. 4 at Lancaster General Hospital, where he was receiving treatment for a hand injury, according to the complaint.

In addition to attempted homicide, Adams-Nicholls is charged with one count of aggravated assault. He was arraigned on Dec. 4 and remanded to Lancaster County Prison. Bail is set at $500,000.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 16, according to court records.
