It's only permissible to use electric-powered devices like scooters, skateboards and unicycles on private property, not public roads, the police department said.

COLUMBIA, Pa. — Police in a Lancaster County borough are reminding those who use electric skateboards, scooters, or unicycles to stay off public roadways -- or risk getting a citation.

The Columbia Borough Police Department said Wednesday that state Vehicle Code prohibits the use of the electric-powered low-speed vehicles on public roads.

The devices can only be used on private property or in public parks, the police department said.

"Use of scooters, skateboards, and unicycles in the public roadway is very unsafe," the department said. "Violators...may be stopped by police officers and possibly cited."

The public is invited to view PennDOT's Micro-mobility Fact Sheet for more information, the police department said.
