DA's Office investigating fatal officer-involved shooting in Lancaster County

The shooting involved officers and Shane Kelec, who was wanted for aggravated assault, rape and related charges. Kelec was killed, police said.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — The coroner was called to an officer-involved shooting in Lancaster County Thursday afternoon.

According to Lancaster County Emergency Dispatch, the incident was reported along the 1500 block of South Market Street in Elizabethtown at 2:51 p.m. The shooting involved officers and Shane Kelec, who was wanted for aggravated assault, rape and related charges. 

Members of the United States Marshals' Eastern District Violent Crimes Task Force were reportedly attempting to locate the suspect and serve an arrest warrant, according to the DA's Office. 

Task force members encountered Kelec in the area of the 1500 block of S. Market Street where the fatal shooting occurred. 

Preliminary information indicates that officers fired at the suspect and a firearm was found at the scene near the suspect. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office. 

Officials with the DA's Office are investigating the incident and will decide, at a later date, on the police use of force.
