Firefighters work to clean up after fire at Lancaster County barn

The fire started in a dairy barn on the 400 block of Vintage Road, according to Lancaster County 911 Dispatch. No people were reported to be injured.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — First responders battled a barn fire overnight in Lancaster County.

The fire started around 2:36 a.m. on July 12 in a dairy barn on the 400 block of Vintage Road at Kinzer Road in Sadsbury Township, according to Lancaster County 911 Dispatch.

Officials say no people were harmed in the blaze, and the coroner was not called to the scene.

There were cows, horses, hay and equipment inside the barn, and firefighters at the scene say they were able to get all of the animals out. Crews also removed a propane tank from the barn, but it is unclear at this time if the tank was related to the fire.

Emergency responders are preparing to demolish the charred parts of the barn and start cleaning up. Some roads in the area may be closed as fire crews work, according to Dispatch.

Around 40 units responded to the fire including 15 tanker trucks. Firefighters say there are no hydrants for miles, which necessitated them bringing in a lot of water and made battling the fire more difficult.

The Fire Marshal's preliminary investigation did not yet determine a cause of the fire, but they estimate the barn suffered about $1 million in damages--$600,000 for the building and $400,000 for equipment inside.

The Bart Township Fire Company continues the investigation into the incident.
