Firefighters battle fire at Elizabethtown apartment building

The Elizabethtown Fire Department says there were initial reports that people were still trapped inside the building, but a search turned up negative.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — First responders battled an overnight fire at an apartment building in Lancaster County.

Firefighters were called out just before 1 a.m. on Aug. 23 for the blaze, according to the Elizabethtown Fire Department Station 74. It occurred at a three-story apartment building in the area of West High Street and S. Peace Alley, Lancaster County 911 Dispatch said.

The Elizabethtown Fire Department says there were initial reports that people were still trapped inside the building, but a search turned up negative.

No one was injured in the fire, according Dispatch.

Station 74 called a second alarm due to fire quickly spreading to the attic. Crews worked for about two hours before the fire was marked under control, the Elizabethtown Fire Department said.

The roof of the building was opened up for ventilation.

The Pennsylvania State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
