WILLOW STREET, Pa. — A Lancaster County man has been charged with aggravated assault by vehicle with DUI in connection to a September 2023 crash that seriously injured two people in Providence Township, State Police said Thursday.
Gary Testerman Jr., 36, of Willow Street, was driving under the influence when his Ford Escape swerved into an oncoming lane and struck a GMC Terrain occupied by two people head-on as both vehicles traveled on Lancaster Pike South of Mount Airy Road, a State Police investigation determined.
The occupants of the other vehicle sustained serious injuries, including head injuries and multiple compound fractures. They, along with Testerman, were transported to a local hospital for treatment, police said.
Investigators at the scene of the crash found empty alcohol shooter bottles in Testerman's vehicle, police claim. Before he was taken to the hospital, troopers on the scene noted the strong odor of alcohol emanating from Testerman.
Police claim investigators also found Testerman was driving under a suspended license and that his vehicle did not have the required financial responsibility paperwork.
His blood alcohol content was found to be at .257%, which is over the legal limit, according to police.
In addition to aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, Testerman is charged with careless driving, disregarding traffic lanes, operating a vehicle without financial responsibility, fraudulent use of a registration plate, expired registration, operating a vehicle with a suspended license and restrictions on alcoholic beverages.
He was arraigned Thursday before Magisterial District Judge William R. Mankin II, who set bail at $175,000.
