Christmas Eve crash in Lancaster County leaves one dead

According to the coroner's office, the crash took the life of an 11 year-old girl on Christmas Eve.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — Update, Dec. 26: The Lancaster County Coroner's office has released more information regarding the fatal crash in Salisbury Township on Christmas Eve. 

At 10:48 a.m., the coroner's office was dispatched to Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital for a patient pronounced dead in the operating room. 

The patient was an 11-year-old female from Cochranville, Pa. who had been a rear passenger in a car that was involved in a crash earlier that day in the 6000 block of Old Philadelphia Pike in Salisbury Township.

An autopsy was performed and determined her death to be due to multiple traumatic injuries and ruled as accidental. 

Update, Dec. 25: State Police in Lancaster have released additional details regarding the fatal Christmas Eve crash in Salisbury Township.

One vehicle was traveling east on Old Philadelphia Pike and struck another vehicle, which was traveling west, when they failed to stay in their lane.

The first vehicle came to final rest facing south, blocking the westbound lane of Old Philadelphia Pike; the driver suffered minor injuries.

The second vehicle contained a driver and two passengers; all occupants suffered serious injuries, and the right rear passenger was pronounced dead at Lancaster General Hospital later that day.

Update, Dec. 24, 1:55 p.m.: State Police confirmed that the coroner was called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash in Salisbury Township.

According to police, two men and one woman were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

As of 1:50 p.m., the closed portion of Old Philadelphia Pike has reopened. 

Previously: Crews in Lancaster are assisting a crash that occurred on Christmas Eve morning.

According to Lancaster County Emergency Dispatch, State Police arrived at the 6100 block of Old Philadelphia Pike in Salisbury Township at 8:49 a.m. on Sunday. 

There have been multiple people transported to a local hospital, but there is no confirmed number, dispatch stated.

The surrounding roadway of Old Philadelphia Pike has been closed as police investigate the crash.
