LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — Lancaster County fire crews have been on the scene of an apartment building fire in Warwick Township since just before 4:30 a.m. on Sunday.
According to the Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Department, crews were dispatched to the 300 block of Creekside Lane to fight a reported "out-of-control building fire with flames coming out of the roof."
Warwick Emergency Services Fire Commissioner Duane Ober told FOX43 that all residents were out of the building when crews arrived, due to either evacuating themselves or being assisted by police.
Ober stated that the building had 24 units with around 40 residents; five of which were taken to the hospital for precautionary measures.
About a dozen fire companies responded to fight the flames, which brought around 100 firefighters to the scene. As of 11:30 a.m., Ober confirmed that the fire was under control.
At this time the cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal unit.
Although the building had a fire alarm system and sprinkler systems, Ober stated that the sprinklers were not installed in the attic where the fire ended up reaching and spreading quickly.
The apartment building's leasing company is working with the Red Cross to assist residents.
Anyone with information on the fire or who needs help as a result of the fire is asked to contact the Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Department through Lancaster County Dispatch.
This is a developing story. FOX43 has a crew on the way and will provide more information as it becomes available.
