LANCASTER, Pa. — The Lancaster City Bureau of Police has a message for St. Patrick's Day revelers ahead of next weekend's holiday: If you're going to enjoy a few pints of Guinness, a shot of Jameson or any other spirits, be sure to do so responsibly.

The police department said it will join other law enforcement agencies across Lancaster County and the commonwealth to conduct impaired driving enforcement operations from Friday, March 8 through Sunday, March 17.

These operations will include DUI mobile patrols and sobriety checkpoints, the police department said.

"Local and state law enforcement agencies are working together to emphasize to drivers that Pennsylvania's legal alcohol limit is .08 for most drivers and stricter limits for various categories such as commercial vehicles and school bus operators," Lancaster Police said. "Responsible adults need to be aware of the alcohol content of what they are consuming, and to remember that impairment begins with that first drink – Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving.

"The Lancaster City Bureau of Police is committed to reducing the number of impaired driving crashes, injuries, and fatalities in our community. To accomplish this objective, the Lancaster City Bureau of Police will conduct high visibility enforcement activities to dissuade motorists from driving while impaired, apprehend individuals who violate the laws, and promote using shared ride services or appointing a designated sober driver."

The enforcement mobilization is part of the Center for Traffic Safety’s Police Traffic Services grant from Pennsylvania’s Highway Safety Program. It is funded by part of PennDOT’s investment of federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
