LANCASTER, Pa. — A Lancaster community center offered free breakfasts on Thanksgiving morning as a way to give back for the holiday.
Crispus Attucks Community Center hosted the breakfast along with the local Phusion food truck and expected more than 100 people to take advantage of the free meals.
"I bought my food truck last year, and as my grand opening, I wanted to give back to the people," said Patricia Soto, the owner of Phusion. "Most times, people don't have anywhere to actually go for the holidays, and it could be very sad. They lost someone or just not enough food for people. So I think this is another way for people to get together for the holidays and not feel so down about it and feel good about themselves."
The Center has been in Lancaster for 100 years and offers weekly community meals and monthly food pantries. Director Joshua Hunter says the breakfast is a continuation of its outreach.
"You think about the work of the center and just the work of this community," Hunter said. "It's really this legacy piece. It's how do we build these collaborations and how do we keep these partnerships going? So for us, I think it's something that's going to last a lifetime."
The community center offers twice-monthly food pantries on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month and twice-weekly community meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week.
