LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — It's a celebration of what Lancaster Township leaders have been working nearly three decades towards. Dozens of community members gathered for the ceremonial ribbon-cutting to open the new Lancaster Township Fire Department firehouse on Saturday.
The new station located at 1275 Millersville Pike across from Manor Shopping Center replaces the Department's two 70-year-old stations; Station North on Maple Avenue and Station South on Fairview Avenue.
The ultimate goal of the new firehouse is to improve emergency response times, and make it easier for the all-volunteer organization to serve the community.
Lancaster Township Fire Department Chief Steve Roy has said the new, centralized location should make that possible.
"We can allocate resources much more quickly, get pieces out faster and really be an anchor for the community for many years to come," Chief Roy reiterated at the ribbon-cutting on Saturday.
Department officials said the community has helped raise more than $1.1 million to build the new station, including $500,000 in COVID relief funding in Lancaster County.
Saturday's celebrations included volunteer firefighters giving tours to community members.
