Little hero in Lititz honored for her big dose of bravery

Nine-year-old Aubrie Lawson made a life-saving call to 911 that saved her dad's life, just before Christmas.

LITITZ, Pa. — One glance at the Lawson family shows a happy and healthy bunch. However, that wouldn't be possible without nine-year-old Aubrie.

"I was a bit nervous," Aubrie said. "I was shaking, but other than that I was calm.”

She made the life-saving call to 911 on Dec.14 of last year when her dad couldn’t.

"It started getting hard to breathe and my medicine wasn’t working," Aubrie's dad Jeremy Lawson said. "I yelled her name and she did the rest."

Aubrie, calm and collected, told dispatchers what was happening even leading them to her dad when they arrived.

"If you’re ever in a situation like that, try to be brave," Aubrie said.

On Wednesday, that bravery was honored at UPMC Lititz with a celebration. Emergency service personnel who responded and even the staff at UPMC who cared for Jeremy were in attendance.

Director of the Emergency Department at UPMC Lititz Cindy Zimmerman said Aubrie's story should serve as an example.

“I definitely think these are things kids need to learn," Zimmerman said. "Whether it’s at school [or] whether it’s at home."

For Aubrie, however, call it muscle memory. She made another life-saving 911 call when her aunt had a seizure.

"I did it for my aunt," Aubrie said. "But then I learned to stay calm."

So for dad, it’s no exaggeration to say he had someone looking out for him.

"I had my guardian angel," Jeremy said. "That’s all I needed."
