MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — Millersville Borough Police on Tuesday said they are investigating a shots-fired incident that occurred at a party near the Millersville University campus early Saturday morning.
It happened at an apartment on the first block of North Prince Street at about 12:24 a.m., police said.
Responding officers arrived within a minute of the initial call, but the suspected shooter was no longer at the scene, police said.
Residents at the apartment told police they were hosting a party when a group of 5-10 males tried to enter and caused a disturbance when the residents would not allow them in.
Eventually, after numerous attempts to get the males to leave, the males started throwing punches at the residents and one man was observed firing a handgun into the ceiling, police said.
Officers gathered additional information from witnesses, including a brief cell phone video of the incident that was captured and posted to social media. The video clip clearly showed an individual firing a handgun twice into the ceiling while falling to the ground during a brief scuffle with people at the party, according to police.
Officers did recover a spent handgun casing which was unique and confirmed that there were blank cartridges in the handgun and not regular ammunition, police said.
There was no damage to the ceiling tiles in the residence and there were no injuries to anyone at the party.
"At this time, we are actively engaged in following up on numerous tips we have received regarding the identities of the individuals in the group that caused this disturbance," the police department said. "Updates will be provided periodically, and we thank all of the tipsters for the information that has been provided thus far."
