Lancaster County Career and Technology Center campuses closed while police investigate social media threat

All campuses will be closed "out of an abundance of caution" on Friday while police investigate a threat, according to Lancaster County Career and Technology Center.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — A social media threat has prompted Lancaster County Career and Technology Center to close all campuses on Friday, March 8.

Officers received a report of a possible threat to staff at around 8 p.m. yesterday, according to the Northwest Regional Police Department in Elizabethtown. The allegation was made through the "Safe2Say" app and claimed that students made threatening comments towards a staff member on the social media platform Snapchat.

Police say that due to the nature of Snapchat, which deletes messages immediately after being read by the recipient, the investigation is still ongoing to identify all statements and people involved. Officers have not yet verified any of the allegations as an actual threat, but the investigation will continue until all concerns are cleared, the NRPD said.

The school posted the following statement on its website:

Out of an abundance of caution, all LCCTC campuses will be closed tomorrow, 3/8/24, following a threat. All classes will switch to a virtual learning day to ensure the safety of all of our faculty, staff, and students. Adult Practical Nursing students are expected to arrive at their clinical sites as scheduled.
