Police identify woman killed in Lancaster stabbing

Police identified the deceased woman as Carmen Martinez-Silva. An autopsy determined she died of multiple stab wounds, and her manner of death was ruled a homicide.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — One person has died and two others were injured in a stabbing in Lancaster County on Sunday.

According to the East Hempfield Township Police Department, the stabbing occurred on the 2900 block of Dell Lane in East Hempfield Township at approximately 1:40 p.m. on Nov. 3.

The two surviving individuals involved in the incident were transported to Lancaster General Hospital. The suspect, Benjamin Garcia Gual, 49, of Lancaster, was one of those taken to the hospital.

Officers say when they arrived at the scene, they found Gual sitting in a green Toyota Corolla, injured, with a silver kitchen knife laying on the passenger seat.

They also found a man and a woman who had been stabbed. The man had stab wounds to his head at the base of his skull, chest, abdomen and left arm. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. The woman also had stab wounds throughout her body, and she succumbed to her injuries at the scene despite EMS' life-saving efforts.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Martinez-Silva and the other victim were trying to protect a family member from Gual when he stabbed them.

Gual is charged with criminal homicide, criminal attempt - criminal homicide, three counts of aggravated assault - attempts to cause serious bodily injury or causes injury with extreme indifference, possession of an instrument of crime with intent and three counts of recklessly endangering another person, court documents show.

He was denied bail and is being held in Lancaster County Prison, according to court records.
