LANCASTER, Pa. — In preparation for the 2024 U.S. Women’s Open, the United States Golf Association and local township officials on Friday unveiled a comprehensive parking and transportation plan "to ensure the safe and efficient movement of traffic and pedestrians during the championship," which will be held from May 27 to June 2 at Lancaster Country Club.
"The transportation system will use designated parking lots around Lancaster to help ensure that fans experience stress-free travel to and from Lancaster Country Club, which is set to host its second U.S. Women’s Open Championship," the USGA said. "The traffic management plan is also designed to minimize the impact of the event on local residents and commuters."
The USGA said it worked on the plan along with representatives from the Manheim Township Police Department, the East Lampeter Police Department, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the traffic consultant firm ELA Group Inc.
It's the second time the USGA has had to work with the Lancaster and Pennsylvania community after its first visit in 2015.
"It’s nice to go back to a site that you're familiar with that we've had a really successful championship," said Bryan Megee, Championship Director for the USGA. "You can build on the momentum and [it] definitely makes our jobs easier from a planning and logistics perspective to be able to go to a place where they really embrace the championship and they're embracing the fact that they're about to see the best 156 players in the world compete in their hometown."
Here's what they came up with:
General Parking
Complimentary fan parking will be adjacent to Penn Cinema (541 Airport Road, Lititz, PA 17543) from Tuesday, May 28 to Sunday, June 2.
A complimentary shuttle will be available from the parking lot to the championship entrance. Shuttle services begin approximately 45 minutes before the first tee time each day and run until approximately one hour after play concludes.
Please follow all championship parking signage upon your arrival to the lot. Public safety officials and parking staff will be in place to assist with directions.
Accessible parking spaces for all vehicles displaying appropriate HD/DP license plates or placards will be reserved at all parking locations.
Fans requiring lift-equipped transportation should contact 2024uswomensopen@usga.org before the championship to receive specific parking instructions.
Ride Share & Bicycles
Fans traveling to the championship via ride share are encouraged to navigate to the Calvary Church drop-off/pick-up located at 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster. A shuttle service will be available to provide easy and direct access to the championship entrance.
There is no parking or staging for vehicles at the ride-share location, so fans should coordinate pick-up times accordingly.
Vehicles proceeding to the ride-share location will be instructed to follow directional signs and parking attendants to the appropriate pick-up and drop-off location. Ride-share vehicles are NOT permitted to pick up or drop off at any other location around the championship grounds. All other U.S. Women’s Open parking is by permit only.
As a safety precaution, and due to the heavy volume of vehicular traffic around the championship, bicycles will not be permitted around the championship grounds.
Fans choosing to ride a bicycle to the championship are urged to follow directions and signage to Calvary Church.
Owners are responsible for the security of their bicycles.
Road Restrictions, Alternate Commuter Routing & Traffic Impacts
From Monday, May 27 through Sunday, June 2, residents and through traffic are encouraged to adjust travel around peak U.S. Women’s Open arrival and departure times (7-11 a.m. and 4-8 p.m.) in the vicinity of Lancaster Country Club.
Shuttle and vehicular traffic are expected to be heavy along the primary routes in and around Lancaster Country Club during these times.
In support of the championship’s public safety plan, New Holland Pike/Rt. 23 between the Route 30 interchange and Eden Road will be closed daily from 5:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. between Monday, May 27 and Sunday, June 2. Only residents displaying the appropriate parking hangtag, championship vehicles and service vehicles will be permitted through the checkpoints.
Potential delays due to championship traffic can be expected along the following routes during peak arrival and departure times:
- Eden Road
- Millcross Road
- Butter Road
- New Holland Pike: west of Rt. 30 interchange and east of Eden Road
- Kissel Hill Road
- Landis Valley Road
To avoid additional congestion, local residents and area commuters are encouraged to utilize planned detours which will be marked with signage and message boards.
