HOPE Community Academy and Community School of Excellence have both cancelled classes Thursday as a precaution.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — Charges have been filed against a Virginia teen following a series of online threats made toward the Ephrata Community Pool.

The Ephrata Police Department filed charges on Oct. 9 as the result of an investigation into threats of a shooting made on June 28 at the pool. Members of the community came forward on June 28 to notify police of threats made online involving a potential shooting.

Based on the serious nature of the threats and an inability to determine their veracity in a timely manner, pool staff decided to close the pool on Saturday, June 29, out of an abundance of caution.

A months-long investigation into the source of the threats determined that a 14-year-old male from Colonial Beach, Virginia made specific and repeated threats via social media on June 28 to commit a shooting at the Ephrata Community Pool on June 29.

The suspect was charged with one count of terroristic threats, a third-degree felony.
