Young bicyclist seriously injured in crash Thursday in Lancaster County

LANCASTER, Pa. — Police in Lancaster County are investigating a crash that injured a juvenile bicyclist Thursday night in West Lampeter Township.

It occurred at 6:40 p.m. at the intersection of Wiker and Frances avenues, according to West Lampeter Township Police.

The bicyclist, a juvenile girl, suffered a severe head injury in the crash, according to police.

The initial investigation determined she was crossing the intersection on her bike when she collided with a silver Nissan Rogue SUV that was traveling east on Wiker Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old Lancaster woman, and a four-year-old passenger were not injured, police said.

According to police, the intersection is controlled by stop signs for traffic traveling north and south on Francis Ave. The posted speed limit is 25 mph on Wiker Ave. 

The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet, police said. She was transported to Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital and then transferred to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for treatment.

The crash is still under investigation.
