LEBANON, Pa. — Voters in Lebanon County were testing a new way to sign in to vote, using an E-Poll book. This is part of a county-wide study to improve wait-times at polling stations.
The new system is getting rave reviews from poll workers.
“This way is so much easier, so much faster," said Catheryn Smith, a volunteer at the Lebanon Second Ward West precinct. “We don’t have the big book to page through. It’s faster to find the names and a lot of people have accepted it pretty well.”
The test was conducted at a dozen polling stations across Lebanon County. Melanie Chapter, who volunteers at the North Annville precinct, said the E-Poll books are allowing voters to securely sign in and get their ballot in a matter of seconds.
“The system is very straightforward," said Chapter. "It’s very user-friendly for us and for people coming in to sign, when they check-in for voting.”
Election officials are testing the E-Poll books with the goal of rolling them out at all precincts in 2024. Voters who spoke with FOX43 believe the system could make voting much faster and smoother during the upcoming presidential election.
“It’s just like an iPad," said Richard Wertz, a Lebanon County resident. "You just sign your name, submit it, and they check.”
“I think if they do that in November [2024], it will make things go a lot smoother and quicker," said Mikayla Bowman.
The Lebanon County Commissioners would need to vote to approve using the E-Poll books before they can be used at all county precincts.
