Lebanon County Department of Emergency Services extends Code Blue Alert to Jan. 22

LEBANON, Pa. — The Lebanon County Department of Emergency Services on Monday announced it is extending the Code Blue Alert it issued yesterday to 10 a.m. on Jan. 22.

The extension has been put in place because the National Weather Service is predicting wind chills or actual temperatures will fall below 20 degrees on most nights during the alert period.

According to the department, a Code Blue Alert is issued when weather conditions meet certain criteria that ensure the risk of severe or life-threatening exposure-related injuries are significantly higher than normal.

Those criteria included times when:

  • Temperature is predicted to fall below 20 degrees Fahrenheit for a sustained period of two hours or more and/or the wind chill is predicted to be 20 degrees Fahrenheit or below for two hours or more.
  • Sustained temperatures below freezing with predictions estimating greater than 8 inches of snow accumulation in a relatively short period of time.

During a Code Blue Alert, individuals and families who are homeless are encouraged to contact the entities below for assistance in finding temporary overnight accommodations.
