Multiple crashes on Interstate 81 in Lebanon County have caused the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to divert traffic at the split with Interstate 78 while cleanup efforts continue, a spokesperson told FOX43 Wednesday.
Weather conditions in the affected area were rainy and foggy Wednesday afternoon, but PennDOT spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler said there was no immediate word on what caused the crashes.
Three crash scenes have been cleared, but traffic on I-81 North has been diverted to I-78 East while crews clean up a crash involving a tractor-trailer that was carrying a prefabricated mobile home, Schreffler said.
The truck, which went off the road, was too damaged for workers to get it back on the roadway and continue traveling, according to Schreffler.
The truck is currently being broken apart and loaded into dump trucks, she said.
The cleanup is expected to take a few more hours, according to Schreffler.
There was no word on any injuries.
