MANCHESTER, Pa. — With the cut of a ribbon, Leg Up Farmers Market celebrated its 8th anniversary of serving shoppers in York County.
“We’re so honored to have been around this long," said Dan Stump, store manager of Leg Up Farmers Market. "We’re so grateful to our customers.”
To mark the occasion, Leg Up Farmers Market doubled the size of its produce section and expanded offerings in the wellness aisle. The changes will allow nearby businesses to sell more of their products to customers at the market.
“You’re giving [the customers] more to choose from, and then you’re also supporting that local farmer or local producer," said Carmine Pantano, president of the Buy Local Coalition.
Founder Louie Castriota said customers are not only supporting local farmers but also financially supporting Leg Up Farm—a therapy center for children with special needs. The money from the market allows Leg Up Farm to serve over 700 families each year.
“It’s just incredible how many people we’re touching in our community from the families served at Leg Up Farm and Able Services, to the people who are shopping here to live a healthier life," said Castriota.
Customers continue to support their neighbors one grocery cart at a time.
"They love supporting our local roots, the local people we support, and the nonprofit organization we exist to help grow," said Stump.
The grand re-opening celebration will continue on Sunday, March 24th, and will feature additional store deals, giveaways, and free samples.
