WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Vote tallying in Luzerne County got off to a slow start tonight because of an unfounded threat made to the building where workers are counting ballots.
County Manager Romilda Crocamo told Newswatch 16 that a threat prompted an evacuation at Penn Place in Wilkes-Barre just before 8 p.m., when the polls closed in much of the state.
A bomb-sniffing dog swept through the building and found nothing. In a message, Crocamo said she did not expect the delay to last long.
The unfounded threat in Luzerne County comes amid a backdrop of threats at several other locations throughout Pennsylvania.
Just after 8 p.m., Gov. Josh Shapiro said that authorities do not believe the threats to be credible. State, local and federal law enforcement were investigating.
He said that voters were able to safely cast their ballots throughout Pennsylvania on what he called a "very smooth Election Day."
