Dress for Success expands in Luzerne County

The need for nonprofit Dress for Success has grown so much that it is opening a second location.

HAZLETON, Pa. — A new pair of shoes, the perfect shade of lipstick, and a fresh outfit; many things a woman may want to feel her best are available at Dress for Success Luzerne County.

"We want this to be a safe haven for any woman who has an issue. And this is what we do. This is the work.  we empower women," said Linda Loop, Dress for Success.

Inside this building at the corner of West Broad Street and Wyoming Street in Hazleton, Dress for Success Luzerne County has opened a second location.

"This is a major deal. We're really, really happy to be here. This has been on our radar for well over 12 years," said Loop.

Thanks in large part to donors like the William G. McGowan Charitable Fund.

"Dress for Success here is about programs, about getting people ready, about looking at resumes, about workforce, and the McGowan Foundation helps families and individuals rise from poverty. Dress for success in Luzerne County is wonderful in that they provide not just the dressing but also how to make a living," said Gert Mcgowa, Director of William G. Mcgowan Charitable Fund.

Founder and CEO Linda Loop says that although there is a need for job readiness, interview prep, and résumé building here in the southern part of the county, not many people made the trip to her office in Wilkes-Barre because of a transportation barrier, "That led us to the belief that if they couldn't come to us, we were going to go to them."

So now, on the mezzanine is a location where women who are looking to get back on their feet can come, "We will be doing our signature Workforce Development Program. I'm sitting at our Career Center, where our women will be encouraged to keep their resumes, continue job searching, and doing whatever they need to do to improve their lives," said Loop.

Women can come to Dress for Success by setting up an appointment; you can find more information on their website by clicking here.
