DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — Back-to-school is just around the corner for many kids in central Pennsylvania.
However, there's still time for them to explore fun learning opportunities ahead of the new academic year.
It was another "Marvelous Monday" at Hershey Gardens.
This Monday's theme was all about trees. Master Watershed Steward Program, Penn State Extension and Susquehanna Bonsai Club led a lot of the activities.
Rebecca Lawrence, the public programs manager at Hershey Gardens, shared they hope children and families walk away from these events, "with a better appreciation of their backyard and in the forest that used to be here, or maybe they're going to be instrumental in creating new forests and planting those seeds."
The event takes place in The Children's Garden from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. where kids can take part in creative crafts while learning about the environment.
Lawrence explained it is important to start environmental education early, "because if you start now hopefully it will be a lifelong enthusiasm, understanding, and appreciation for the great outdoors and of course if it starts now, hopefully it will continue."
The last Marvelous Monday event will be on Aug. 5 and its focus is on pollinators with special guest Author and Illustrator Kevin McCloskey.
"Marvelous Mondays" are included in admission to Hershey Gardens and it's a free event for members.
Hershey Gardens also has a few events coming up in August including the Gretna Theatre "Summer Kids Series," guided walks, and Music in the Gardens.
