EPHRATA, Pa. — As you're getting those last-minute gifts this holiday season, you can consider shopping second hand.
From clothes, jewelry, to toys, the nonprofit thrift store ReUzit on State in Ephrata has all sorts of thrifty holiday gift ideas.
"We've got shelves full of toys that are almost like new," said Alonna Gautsche Sprunger, Executive Director of ReUzit on State.
And when you shop there, you're actually giving back to individuals both locally and globally.
Many of the store's funds go toward the Mennonite Central Committee. But this year, they're also supporting Ephrata Area Social Services and Church World Service.
"We give thousands of gift cards to them that they can then give to their clients and we have a special shopping day where all of the proceeds go to local nonprofits," said Sprunger.
Shopping for thrifted gifts during the holidays could also help alleviate some financial stress.
"We feel it's important that families do not have the pressure to keep up with [the] Joneses, but rather that they are purposefully choosing to give within their means and second hand shopping helps do that," said Sprunger.
ReUzit on State is always looking for item donations throughout the year.
"Our partners, our donors, our volunteers I mean they are the best. We really are a part of the community and they are our community and they make it all possible," said Sprunger.
