HARRISBURG, Pa. — The first Wawa convenience store in Dauphin County opened its doors Thursday morning, as customers lined up outside the store to celebrate the grand opening.
The store, located on West West Harrisburg Pike in Lower Swatara Township, is the first of 40 locations set to open across the region in the next few years, with stores set to open in Cumberland, Franklin, and York Counties in the coming months.
"This is a chance for us to thank our VIP customers who have written to us and said please bring a Wawa closer to our home in Central Pa., so we're getting ready to do that," said Lori Bruce, Wawa public relations manager.
Officials say they expect 1,400 jobs to be created from that expansion.
