York County veterans get free trip to the National Museum of the U.S. Army

350 veterans are taking a trip to the National Museum of the U.S. Army in honor of Veterans Day.

YORK, Pa. — As we approach Veterans Day, groups and companies are coming together to show their appreciation for veterans.

Today, six organizations along with the Bailey Family of Companies will put 350 veterans and their guests on a bus to take a trip to the National Museum of the United States Army.

This is the sixth annual All-Vets trip that organizers have put on. The entire day is free of charge to the attending veterans and their guests. Organizers say it’s a way for them to show their appreciation for the freedoms our country has been given because of the veterans.

“They’re so vital… if it weren’t for what they did throughout the years we would not be living the lifestyle that we live today,” said Brenda Shue, Organizer with Bailey Coach.

According to their website, The National Museum of The United States Army Celebrates over 245 years of Army History and honors our nation’s soldiers—past, present, and future—the regular army, the Army Reserve, and the Army National Guard.

“We try to choose a different location each year,” said Shue. She added, “We’ve done things like Arlington National Cemetery, but we try to pick something that would appeal to the veterans.”

Chieu Le is a Vietnam War Veteran and was also a gun pilot. He currently is a member of Harrisburg Veterans Affairs and serves as an honor guard for Red Rose City.

Le gave a speech to the veterans ahead of their trip to Virginia today.

“I feel that it is a little late but better late than never, I felt bad for the veterans before when they left Vietnam and came back, they didn’t get a very good welcome so at least now I’m pleased to see that when I wear this hat or go anywhere I hear thank you for your service,” Le.

The buses return around 6 p.m. tonight to a crowd gathered at the York Fairgrounds.
