FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. — A motorcyclist is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Franklin County, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
David Newell Jr., 42, of Orrstown, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred at the intersection of Orrstown Road (Route 533) and Blind Lane in Southampton Township at 10:52 p.m. on Sept. 1.
Troopers say Newell was driving his 2002 Harley Davidson Road King west on Orrstown Road at a high rate of speed when he failed to make a right curve and subsequently went over the double yellow line, into the eastbound lane, across the white fog line and off the roadway, PSP said.
Newell hit the guiderail south of the street and drove back into the eastbound lane in an attempt to correct his course. Newell then fell from the Harley and hit the guiderail, sustaining fatal injuries. His motorcycle continued off the road and eventually stopped in a field, according to State Police.
