DOVER, Pa. — Another day, another snowstorm, and another long day for road crews.
Municipalities across central Pa. have been sending road crews out to clear the streets after Friday's snowstorm. Most counties in the region experienced between two and four inches of snow throughout the day.
In Dover, York County, road crews got to work plowing over 100 miles of roads around 5 a.m. on Friday morning.
“We’ll be at this until at least midnight, possibly longer," said Michael Feight, a highway maintenance worker with Dover Township. “We worked 18 to 20 hours here the other day. Today’s going to be another 20 hours plus.”
As each road gets plowed, road crews are leaving behind trails of salt and brine. Feight said the mixture will hopefully keep the snow and ice off the roads.
“You got to get the salt on it, then you need a little bit of traffic," said Feight. "But you don’t want extra cold temperatures because the salt will stop working.”
Road crews will continue to monitor back roads throughout Dover Township, as they expect to experience snow drifts later on tonight.
"As long as the wind is blowing and there's snow to move, you keep on hitting the same piece of road over and over, and it seems like you're not getting anywhere," said Feight.
Despite spending hours on the road, Feight said he’ll keep plowing until all of the roads are safe for drivers.
“I usually don’t get tired until we’re done. And when we’re done, then I’m ready for a nap," said Feight.
