ELYSBURG, Pa. — It's technically the "off season" at Knoebels Amusement Resort, but the park near Elysburg is a busy and bright place. This is the fifth year for Joy Through the Grove, the holiday light display.
"Each year we do we try to outdo ourselves, we try to keep adding more displays, more scenes," Trevor Knoebel said.
The two mile drive through experience features lights as far as the eye can see. Many of the displays feature Knoebels characters and rides.
"We try to capture the fun elements that the guests love about Knoebels in the summer season and turn that into the light displays for Joy Through the Grove," Trevor Knoebel said.
his year, you can tune your car to a radio station to listen to music as you're driving through the display.
"You stop by our admissions booth and you'll get this wonderful little pamphlet and you can scan our QR code with a link to Sunbury Broadcasting and it has a Joy Through the Grove playlist," Jon Slodysko said.
While you're driving through the display, Knoebels offers plenty of snacks. And after you see the lights, Christmas Village is open Thursday through Sunday evenings. You can get pictures with Santa.
"We have fire pits. You can roast some smores and marshmallows. We also have fresh cut local Christmas trees here, so if you'd like to pick up a Christmas tree for the season. We have a grab and go food stand, so if after going through the lights you're hungry. We have some classic Knoebels goodies there," Ethan Knoebel said.
Joy Through the Grove runs nightly through New Year's Eve except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day here at Knoebels Amusement Resort near Elysburg. The display is open from 5:30 to 9pm.
