Teen hospitalized, suspect on the run after Shamokin shooting

Investigators say Aiden Scott, 15, of Shamokin, fired a pistol at the 15-year-old victim, striking him in the chest.

SHAMOKIN, Pa. — Police in Northumberland County say a teen boy shot another teen in the chest.

According to Coal Township Police, investigators responded to a shooting in a wooded area just outside of Shamokin around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators say Aiden Scott, 15, of Shamokin, fired a pistol at the 15-year-old victim, striking him in the chest.

The victim was taken to the Shamokin police station and then later flown to a hospital. He is in serious condition.

Scott is not in custody. He has been charged as an adult with aggravated assault, aggravated assault of a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a minor, and recklessly endangering another person.

Suellen Le was with her 3-year-old son on Tuesday afternoon when she heard gunshots in her neighborhood.

"It's really scary," Le said. "I was getting out of my car, and I heard 'pop, pop.' I didn't think nothing of it. I kept getting my child out of the car because he was in his car seat. We walked to the house, and I heard 'pop, pop, pop, pop' and I heard somebody scream. So, then I called for help."

Neighbors are upset about something like this happening in their neighborhood.

"I think it's terrible. I lived here over 11 years, and it just seems like the area's getting worse and worse—probably a lack of parental discipline," Joe Kristoff said.

Anyone with information should call Coal Township Police or Northumberland County 911.
