PA senator pushes resolution to combat drone sightings at the state level

State Senator Rosemary Brown is urging federal officials to give state governments the authority to tackle drone sighting concerns.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — As the FAA continues to face questions over mysterious drone sightings in New Jersey, people are now starting to see drones flying in eastern Pennsylvania.

A spokesperson with the Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that they received multiple calls between Wednesday and Thursday about people seeing drones in the night sky. However, they determined that none of the sightings indicated any immediate threat to the public.

In response to the police reports, State Senator Rosemary Brown sent a letter to the FAA calling for immediate action to address the drone sightings.

"Common sense tells you that if you see something several times that if it’s something of a very concerning matter, you have to approach it," said Senator Brown (R-Monroe).

In addition to the letter, Senator Brown is introducing a resolution urging the federal government to allow Pennsylvania to handle drone sightings at the state level.

“It would establish a plan through PEMA, through the State Police, through the National Guard in ways we can deal with this," said Senator Brown. "If the federal government is not going to give the response or information we need, then allow us to do that."

Meanwhile, in south-central Pa., several people in Gettysburg reported on Facebook about seeing drones on Thursday night. Fairview Township Police in York County also confirmed to FOX43 that they got several calls reporting drone sightings.

Senator Brown said she will continue urging federal and state leaders to take action in order to protect Pennsylvanians.

“We have to pay attention," said Senator Brown. "It’s our job to pay attention to this.”
