State Police investigated a total of 774 crashes statewide over 5-day Independence Day weekend

Troopers also issued a total of 28,429 citations, including 7,975 for speeding, across Pennsylvania.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police troopers investigated a total of 774 vehicle crashes and made 556 DUI arrests over the five-day Independence Day holiday weekend, according to statistics released this week.

The 774 statewide crash investigations resulted in 11 fatalities and 244 injuries, according to State Police. Intoxicated driving was a factor in 64 of the crashes, including four fatal crashes.

Over the five-day enforcement period, which covered July 3-7, troopers also issued a total of 28,429 citations, including:

  • 7,975 for speeding
  • 876 for failing to wear a seat belt
  • 225 for not securing children in safety seats

The 774 total crash investigations in Pennsylvania are up slightly from last year, when troopers investigated 668 crashes statewide. Intoxicated driving factored into 59 investigations in 2023. There were a total of three fatalities across the state last year, according to State Police.

In Troop H, which covers Adams, Dauphin, Cumberland, Franklin, Perry and York counties, troopers investigated 66 total crashes, which resulted in 25 injuries and two fatalities. Intoxicated driving was a factor in six of those crashes, including one fatality, according to the data.

In Troop J, which covers Lancaster and Chester counties, troopers investigated 41 crashes that resulted in 18 injuries and one death. Intoxicated driving factored into three crashes, according to State Police.

In Troop L, which covers Lebanon County along with Schuylkill and Berks counties, troopers investigated 51 total crashes, resulting in 15 injuries. Intoxicated driving was determined to be a factor in three of the crashes investigated by State Police.

These statistics cover only those incidents investigated by the state police and do not include incidents to which other law enforcement agencies responded.
