State Police release statewide traffic enforcement report for Easter holiday weekend

Troopers issued 17,168 citations, including 5,285 for speeding offenses, across Pennsylvania from Friday through Sunday.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — State Police troopers investigated more than 400 crashes and issued more than 17,000 citations across Pennsylvania over the Easter holiday weekend, according to data released Monday.

From Friday, March 29 to Sunday, March 31, troopers investigated a total of 407 crashes statewide. Six people died and 90 others were injured in the crashes investigated by State Police over that span.

Intoxicated driving was a factor in 46 of those crashes, two of which were fatal, according to State Police.

Troopers arrested 358 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and issued 17,168 traffic citations, including:

  • 5,285 for speeding
  • 557 for failing to wear a seatbelt
  • 90 for not securing children in safety seats

The total number of crashes was down slightly from the number investigated in 2023 (411), State Police said. The number of DUI arrests increased slightly from last year, when 329 arrests were made by State Police troopers.

In Troop J, which covers Lancaster, York, and Chester counties, troopers investigated 33 total crashes, which included one fatality and eight injuries. Alcohol was a factor in one of those crashes, according to the report. Troopers made 31 DUI arrests and issued 973 total citations, including 224 for speeding.

Troop H, which covers Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, and Perry counties, investigated 46 crashes that resulted in two fatalities and seven injuries, the report said. Troopers made 31 DUI arrests, issued 187 speeding citations and 561 citations for other offenses.

In Troop L, which covers Lebanon, Schuylkill and Berks counties, troopers made 20 DUI arrests, issued 543 citations for speeding and issued 660 citations for other offenses over the weekend. There were 23 total crashes investigated, which included one fatality and three injuries.

Troop G, which covers seven counties including Juniata and Mifflin in Central PA, investigated 20 crashes (one of which was fatal), made 26 DUI arrests, issued 535 speeding citations and 622 citations for other offenses.
