PERRY COUNTY, Pa. — A bus crash in Perry County reportedly injured four students.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, on April 4 at 8:30 a.m., troopers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a school bus with students on board.
A West Perry School District Elementary School bus was on its route to pick up students for school at Blain Elementary when it veered off the right side of the roadway on Fisher Hill Road, near the intersection of Dobbs Road in Northeast Madison Township.
According to police, the bus initially struck a utility pole, then struck several fence posts, traveled up the side of an embankment and finally struck a street sign.
The crash caused damage to the school bus and a utility pole, causing a temporary power outage.
At the time of the crash, there were 16 students and the driver onboard. Four students were taken to three different hospitals with apparent or suspected minor injuries as a result of the crash.
West Perry School District administration was on the scene and all parents were reportedly notified. The school issued the following statement:
When the District was informed of the accident, district administrators responded to the scene and worked with first responders to ensure all students and the driver were evaluated for injuries. Four students with minor injuries were transported to the hospital. Parents were notified of the accident as quickly as possible, and alternative transportation was arranged for students. We want to express our gratitude to the first responders and all those involved in swiftly and professionally responding to this minor accident.
The school bus was able to be driven from the scene. The remaining students were transported to Blain Elementary on another school bus.
