LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — Police say an argument ended in a murder-suicide after two people were found dead inside a Lancaster County home on Wednesday morning.
According to Northern Lancaster County Regional Police, around 4:10 a.m. on April 10, officers were sent to a home in the 300 block of Sun Hill Road in Penn Township for a shooting that had just occurred.
Upon arrival, authorities say they located the bodies of a man and a woman inside the home.
Police say that the homeowners Mark Shepherd, 71, and Diane Shepherd, 63, were inside the home with extended family at the time of the incident.
Authorities say that family members said they awoke to a loud argument between the Shepherds in a separate part of the residence before multiple gunshots were heard.
Both of the Shepherd's were found with deadly injuries.
Police say that Mark Shepherd fired multiple shots from a revolver handgun at Diane before taking his own life with the same weapon.
“Too many people lose their lives in these kinds of shootings or these kinds of events," said Christine Gilfillan, director of Domestic Violence Services of Lancaster.
She says there’s a growing trend of domestic-related shootings and wants potential victims to know there are resources out there.
“Educating people, as scary as it is, being able to have these conversations that if these threats are occurring, we need to take them very seriously," said Gilfillan.
Northern Lancaster County Regional Police tell FOX43 they had not been called to the Shepherds' home in the past.
