Postal Service looks at bringing new post office to rural Lebanon County town

Ono Township residents have been without postal service for the past 14 months.

ONO, Pa. — The United States Post Office is negotiating a lease for a new post office in Ono Township, Lebanon County. This announcement comes as township residents have been without postal service since October 2022.

Mark Lawrence, a spokesman with USPS, released the following statement to FOX43 about the Ono Post Office.

"The Postal Service has identified potential sites for a new Ono Post Office, but no final decision has been made. Regarding location of the potential sites, the Postal Service does not discuss details pertaining to lease negotiations."

“I’ll believe it when they actually do something," said Ed Anspach, an Ono resident and owner of Anspach Autos.

Anspach said the past 14 months without postal service has been difficult. He said he has to take time away from his small car dealership just to send out and receive mail at the Jonestown Post Office about three miles away.

“They’ve had almost three years where they knew they needed a new building for a post office. That’s just lousy service by the government," said Anspach.

Ono's old post office building was converted into a real estate office in March 2023. Jocelyn Shay, a real estate agent whose family managed the old post office, said she notified the Postal Service of several potential options for a new building, including the Ono Volunteer Fire Department.

Despite the long wait, Shay is happy to see the ball rolling for a new post office.

“I’m excited to hear that they’re now in negotiations for a new location," said Shay. "I’m excited to hear that things are being done.”

The Postal Service has yet to announce which locations it is considering for Ono's new post office.
