President Biden in Scranton for funeral of childhood friend

The President is in Scranton to attend the funeral of a childhood friend.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — President Biden arrived at the Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport shortly after 10 am Friday.

He has come to Scranton for the funeral of a childhood friend, Thomas Bell.

Bell died on September 18th. 

In a statement, President Biden says they lived a few blocks apart. He was a classmate, and the two developed a lifelong friendship.

The funeral was held at St. Paul Parish on Penn Ave. in Scranton.

PennDOT says to expect closures on the Interstate while the President is here.
