CAMP HILL, Pa. — An inmate at Camp Hill State Correctional Institution was found dead in his cell this morning, superintendent Michael Gourley announced Tuesday.

Inmate Bernard Grover (Alias: Kevin Beattie), 57, from Philadelphia, was found unresponsive in his cell this morning by prison staff, who immediately attempted life-saving measures until Lower Allen EMS arrived, Gourley said in a press release.

Despite their additional life-saving efforts, Beattie was pronounced dead at 8:16 a.m.

Grover was serving a 22-to-55-year sentence for a burglary conviction out of Philadelphia, the press release said. He had been an inmate at SCI-Camp Hill since February 3, 2023.

During the investigation by Pennsylvania State Police, Grover was observed to have suffered several injuries and his death investigation turned into a homicide investigation.

As a result, Shaquille Tyrin Gibson, 30, from York, has been charged with first-degree murder.

According to PSP, Gibson and Grover were cellmates at the time of the murder.

At this time, Gibson will remain at SCI Camp Hill and will later be transferred to another institution according to the Department of Corrections policy.

Grover's next of kin have been notified.
