Police: Lancaster-area business evacuated due to bomb threat, but no bomb was found

LANCASTER, Pa. — A Lancaster County business was evacuated due to a bomb threat Friday morning, according to East Hempfield Township Police.

But an "exhaustive" search of the property at Shanks Extracts, located on the 300 block of Richardson Drive, determined that no explosive device or any other potential hazard was present on the premises, police said.

The incident began at 6:25 a.m., when employees discovered a message left on the company's phone system that indicated that the building was going to explode, according to police. The employees contacted authorities.

When police arrived, the building was evacuated, a perimeter was set up, and nearby buildings were alerted and evacuated as a precaution, police said.

The building was thoroughly searched by police officers and K9s trained in explosive detection, but no bomb was found.

Normal business and traffic at in the area has resumed, police said.

The incident is still being actively investigated, according to police.

The police department expressed its appreciation for Leisure Lanes, located near the incident, for allowing evacuated employees and emergency personnel to convene there for the duration of the incident.
