LANCASTER, Pa. — A detour is in place on a street in downtown Lancaster while workers attempt to address a sinkhole, police said Wednesday.
The sinkhole was found on the 800 block of North Queen Street, between West Clay and East Ross streets, at about 9:40 a.m., according to Lancaster Police.
Authorities on the scene say the sinkhole opened when a storm sewer line that ties into the main line collapsed due to wear and tear.
Workers are replacing the collapsed line, which is expected to take several hours.
The road is closed in the area and a detour is in place.
Drivers wishing to leave the city are advised to use North Lime St. or an alternative route until the sinkhole is repaired, the police department said.
