Springettsbury Township woman looking for missing family Bible

Deb Georgantis-Miller said her mother's heirloom Bible with priceless ancestry records was accidently given away last year.

YORK, Pa. — A treasure trove of ancestry records sits in a small library of a condo on Eastern Boulevard; each document chronicles centuries of family history.

Thanks to decades of research by 92-year-old Joan Miller, her family can trace their ancestry back to the Mayflower.

“We’ve even taken so many trips to England just to trace everything back to there," said Deb Georgantis-Miller,  Joan's daughter. "She got birth certificates, death certificates, newspaper articles...they’d spend hours in the libraries.”

Deb is now on her biggest search yet to find her family's heirloom Bible, known as the Bailey Bible to Deb and her mother.

“It was given to my mom by my Aunt Iris because it had a lot of information in it." said Deb.

The Bailey Bible was accidentally given away and sold at the York Emporium last year when Joan was moving into her new home

“She cries and says, ‘I’m sorry that this happened, I don’t remember it happening'," said Deb.

The precious family Bible weighs over 10 pounds, is around five inches thick and is filled with irreplaceable family history inside.

“It’s been in the family, it belongs in the family and it should stay in the family," said Joan Miller. "It’s part of our life."

Deb and Joan are reaching out to everyone they can with the hope that the Bailey Bible will one day be found and returned.

“I’m hoping somebody has it and would be happy to return it to me." expressed Joan.
