HARRISBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police troopers investigated a total of 979 crashes, four of which were fatal, over the course of the five-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend, according to data released on Monday.
Alcohol was a factor in 73 of the crashes investigated by State Police across Pennsylvania from November 22 through November 26, the agency said.
Troopers arrested 542 individuals for driving under the influence and issued more than 10,000 speeding citations over the five-day holiday weekend, according to State Police.
Troopers also issued 1,187 citations for failing to wear a seat belt and 133 citations for not securing children in safety seats, according to the data.
In Troop J, which covers York, Lancaster and Chester counties, troopers investigated a total of 70 crashes that resulted in 11 injuries. Alcohol was a factor in eight of the crashes investigated by State Police, the data said.
State Police in Troop J also made 54 DUI arrests, issued 402 speeding citations, and cited 39 total drivers for child seat or seatbelt violations, according to the data.
In Troop H, which covers Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, and Perry counties, troopers investigated 123 crashes. One person was killed and 25 others were injured in the crashes investigated by members of Troop H. Alcohol was a factor in 10 of the crashes, according to State Police.
Troopers also made 61 DUI arrests, issued 570 citations for speeding and 79 for child seat or seat belt violations, according to the data.
Troop L, which covers Lebanon, Schuylkill and Berks counties, investigated 48 crashes over the holiday weekend. A total of 11 people were injured.
Troopers made 30 arrests, cited 836 drivers for speeding, and cited 63 people for seat belt or child seat violations.
